海峡の時間と煉瓦の記憶

門司港は、日本と世界を結ぶ国際貿易港として発展し、関門海峡の雄大な風景と煉瓦建築が織りなす街並みによって、独自の景観を形成してきた。

本計画では、「海峡の時間」と「煉瓦の記憶」を建築へと取り込み、この土地ならではの滞在体験を創出することを目指した。建築全体を通して、関門海峡の風景を内部へと引き込むことを設計の主題としている。朝日に輝く海、絶え間なく行き交う船、夕暮れに染まる海峡。刻々と変化する風景を背景ではなく、建築を構成する一部として捉え、滞在のさまざまな場面に海峡との関係をつくり出した。

最上部では、大浴場と海峡へ水面が連続する「MIZUBA TERRACE」、その下に人々の居場所となる「TAMARIBA」を重ね、吹き抜けによって立体的につないでいる。水面、空、海峡、人の気配が連続し、湯に浸かる、集う、佇むといった異なる過ごし方が、一つの大きな風景の中に共存する空間をつくった。客室もすべて関門海峡に向け、海峡の深い青や夕陽の色彩を空間へ取り込んでいる。また、北九州の伝統工芸である小倉織を用い、港町に息づくものづくりの文化や記憶を現代の空間へと重ねた。

刻々と変化する海峡の時間と、街に積み重ねられてきた煉瓦の記憶。
その二つを建築として再構成することで、門司港の風景や文化とともに過ごす、新たな滞在のあり方を提案している。

Time of the Strait, Memory of Brick

Moji Port developed as an international trading port connecting Japan with the world, shaped by the expansive landscape of the Kanmon Strait and its historic brick architecture. This project brings together the “time of the strait” and the “memory of brick” to create an experience rooted in the character of this place.
The architecture draws the Kanmon Strait into the interior—not simply as a view, but as an integral part of the spatial experience. Morning light on the water, ships continuously passing through the strait, and the changing colors of sunset become part of the architecture itself.

At the top of the building, MIZUBA TERRACE extends its water surface toward the strait, while TAMARIBA forms a place for people to gather and dwell below. Connected through a double-height void, water, sky, landscape, and human activity overlap within a single continuous space.
All guest rooms face the Kanmon Strait, bringing its deep blues and changing light into the interiors. Kokura-ori, a traditional textile of Kitakyushu, further layers the craftsmanship and memory of the port city into the contemporary space.

By reinterpreting the changing time of the strait and the accumulated memory of brick through architecture, the project proposes a new way of staying in Moji Port—one shaped by its landscape, culture, and passage of time.
