風景に浸る

草津・西の河原沿いに佇む、地域に開かれた食事処。絶え間なく立ちのぼる湯煙、温泉の流れ、高原の緑、そして温泉街を行き交う人々の姿を眺めながら過ごす場として計画した。

内部は、墨色の左官壁と瓦敷きの床による静かな黒の空間とした。壁一面に設けた連窓は、西の河原の風景を大きく切り取り、光や湯煙、季節の移ろいを室内へと引き込む。黒い空間と木架構の温かみが、窓外に広がる緑や温泉街の風景をより鮮やかに際立たせる。

建築は風景を演出するのではなく、その変化を静かに受け止める器となる。食事の時間を通して、草津の自然、湯煙、人々の営みに浸ることができる場所を目指した。

Immersion in the Landscape

Located along Nishi-no-Kawara in Kusatsu, this dining space is open to both hotel guests and visitors. It was designed as a place to spend time while overlooking the rising steam, flowing hot springs, highland greenery, and the movement of people through the historic hot spring town.
The interior is composed as a quiet black space, defined by charcoal-colored plaster walls and a floor finished with traditional roof tiles. A continuous wall of windows frames the scenery of Nishi-no-Kawara, drawing light, steam, and seasonal changes into the room. The contrast between the dark interior and the warmth of the timber structure heightens the vivid presence of the landscape beyond.
Rather than staging the view, the architecture becomes a calm vessel for receiving its changing atmosphere. Through the act of dining, guests are invited to immerse themselves in the nature, steam, and everyday life of Kusatsu.
